Unlike the PC version of the game, stuff dropped on the ground in the
xbox 360 version disappears (at least non quest related items). Where is
it safe to store things that you want to come back to, does anyone know?

Unless Bethesda came out with a patch that does what you say it does, that
has never happened to me before. I can leave literally thousands of items
anywhere on the ground, and come back and get them. Then again, I haven't
played the game in about a year or so.

nope. things would definitely disappear unless you stored them in a house
that you also owned. not sure if things disappeared from guilds or not.

Well, I am telling you that I have left extra armor, weapons, Sigil
Stones, etc laying everywhere, and they are still there when I needed
them. My experience when leaving them in a chest ws that they'd
disappear after a few days.

Geez, what a slob. :)

Some chests are safe, some are not. Outdoor cells are supposed to reset
when you're been out of them more that 72 game hours, and my own experience
pretty much agrees with that. If I leave stuff out in an area I won't be
visiting for a while, it'll be gone when I finally do get back.

Maybe, I haven't played a character long enough after pretty much
getting through the game without having the need for them anymore.
Most of the items I obtained I multiplied through glitches.

yep, I got bit once by leaving all of my loot in a barrel outside of one of
the weapons stores in the imperial city. I'd been storing stuff there for
ages and selling things whenever the shoppe's were open. came back to it
one time and it was wiped out, which really made my soul sink from the loss,
even if virtual, and turned into a complete drag. I spent nearly an entire
day (in real life) reloading to a save that contained the loot, selling as
much as I could, and carrying as much as possible (which wasn't a lot at an
early level, even using multiple feather potions) to a secure location. I
think this is what prompted me to buy my first place...somewhere in the
south west.

See, I learned that placing any items in barrels, chests, etc, they
would disappear, even after a day's time (relative to the gameplay) on
the game. But just leaving them on the ground, I would have them for
as long as I needed them.

Buy a house.

Until you can afford one, store everything in Jaffree's chest on the
second floor of the Weynon Priory just outside of Chorrol.

You first have to deliver the amulet to Jaffee before he will unlock
it.

Short answer: Jauffre's chest at Weynon Priory.

Longer answer: http://www.uesp.net
